Before diving into the destinations, let’s talk briefly about the legal and cultural landscape in Mexico. LGBTQ+ rights have made significant progress in the country, with same-sex marriage legal across all 32 states as of 2023. Mexico has strong anti-discrimination laws that protect LGBTQ+ individuals in areas such as employment, housing, and public accommodations. While some regions are more progressive than others, especially in urban areas and tourist hotspots, overall Mexico is considered one of the most gay-friendly countries in Latin America.

    Known as Mexico’s second-largest city, Guadalajara is affectionately known as “Gaydalajara” due to its vibrant LGBTQ+ culture. The city is the birthplace of mariachi music and tequila, and it boasts a lively gay scene that rivals Mexico City’s in size and diversity. With a rich cultural history, excellent food, and a wide range of gay-friendly venues, Guadalajara is a must-visit for any gay traveler. Guadalajara is 120 from Puerto Vallarta which makes it a reasonably close destination to add to your Mexico vacation.
